Ibn Qayyim said

We must pay attention to a matters; athkar, ayat of the Quran and supplications used to cure sickness – perform Ruqyah.

These are a cure in themselves  - however they require acceptance from the place they are applied and strength of conviction from the one giving.

If the sickness if not cured then it is due to weakness of the one applying it or the lack of acceptance in the one given.

If body accepted remedy, would be beneficial.

Likewise the heart – if upright and sound – the rest of the body will be sound. If it is corrupt then the whole body will be corrupt.

If the heart accepts ruqyah and accept supplications that comprise of seeking refuge, If accepted and one performs it with full conviction and applies it with care – it will be affective in removing disease.

Shaykh Fawzan said:

Qur’an is a cure – there is no doubt in this. The outcome depends on us – how we apply it. Are we applying it with certainty and true faith.

Or are we heedless and not conscious of it as a cure.

Surah al Fatiha is a cure – if you recite it without faith though and without focus of heart – it won’t benefit you.

The place has to accept the treatment. The person has to be certain and believe in the Quran as a cure.

“We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers”. 17:82

If a person finds that the disease has not been treated – it can be due to the weakness of the one performing the ruqyah. Either person performing on oneself or the Raqqi – IT IS NOT THE WEAKNESS OF QURAN.

The Quran is the perfect speech of Allah.

Shaykh Fawzan:

The means will not benefit unless you remove everything that will block the remedy and prevent it from being effective.

If the heart totally accepts the Ruqyah and duaa – it will have effect in removing disease.

-          This is a condition of benefiting from ruqyah – both the performer and accepter must accept faith and quran.

Dua of the Prophet:

“Oh Allah, we ask you to make the Quran the spring of our hearts”

Supplication – Dua

When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly nearby. I respond to ones prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺. 2:186

Allah says in the Quran – I answer supplications.

If you want to repel something you don’t like – supplicate.

If the heart is not focused when making dua – it is like a weak bow – it will not hit the target.

Ibn Qayyim

If your dua does not have the desired effect – then something is stopping it

*      Consuming/ eating unlawful (haram, drugs)

*      Oppression

*      Sins

*      Overwhelming state of heedlessness

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Call upon Allah with certainty that He will answer you. Know that Allah will not answer the supplication of an unmindful and distracted heart.

Allah said: call upon me and I will answer.

BE CERTAIN

Allah will not accept dua from headless and inattentive heart.

DUA IS A CURE

Heedlessness of the heart nullifies its strength.

Consuming haram with nullify the strength of the dua.

Proof of this is in the following hadith:

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “O people, Allah is purely good, and He only accepts what is purely good. Verily, Allah has commanded the believers as He has commanded His Messengers. Allah said: O Messengers, eat from wholesome foods and act righteously, for I know what you do (23:51). And Allah said: O you who believe, eat from wholesome food We have provided for you,” (2:172). Then, the Prophet mentioned a man who travelled far, becoming dishevelled and dusty, and he raised his hands to the sky, saying, “O Lord! O Lord!” Yet his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he is nourished by the unlawful, so how can he be answered?
