Lesson 6 – My notes
The
disease and the Cure الداء و الدواء
By Ibn
Qayyim
Read by

Ibn Qayyim reiterated that one of the best remedies is persistence
in supplications.
Constant Dua.
Abu
Hurairah (ra) narrated that :
the
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed, he who does not ask Allah, he gets
angry with him.”
Jami`
at-Tirmidhi 3373 (grade daif)
This means to
frequently ask if Allah and never despair and give up.
This also
shows that there is an obligation to supplicate.
If a servant
finds that their dua is not answered, they return and call their own soul to
account.
If a servant
finds something exists (sin, lacking in something) that is stopping their dua
being answered they should rid themselves of it and persist in making dua.
We do not
know what is good for us. Allah knows and we don’t.
If there is a
delay in answering the dua - it is surely
better for us.
We should ask
Allah for Paradise and seek refuge from the hellfire.
P.17
our Lord
has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you. (40:60)
This is a
command
Call upon
your Lord humbly and secretly. (7:55)
Another command
Even the polytheists
call upon Allah in dire times
If they
happen to be aboard a ship ˹caught in a storm˺, they cry out to Allah ˹alone˺ in sincere devotion. But as soon as
He delivers them ˹safely˺ to shore, they associate ˹others with Him once again˺. (29:65)
If you find yourself
if a difficult situation, arm yourself with dua.
P19
Ibn Qayyim
mentions obstacles that can be the reason for duas not being answered
BEING
HASTY
This means
that someone abandons making dua if it is not being answered quickly enough.
Example is
when a person plants a seed, at the beginning they water it diligently, then
when it is taking to long to grow they stop watering it and abandon it.
It was
narrated from Abu Hurairah that :
the Messenger
of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "It is necessary that you do not become
hasty." It was said: "What does being hasty mean, O Messenger of
Allah?" He said: "When one says: 'I supplicated to Allah but Allah
did not answer me.'"
Sunan Ibn
Majah 3853
Abu Hurairah
narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:
“There is not a man who calls upon Allah with a supplication, except that he is
answered.
1.
Either it shall be granted to him in the
world, or
2.
reserved
for him in the Hereafter,
3.
or,
his sins shall be expiated for it according to the extent that he supplicated –
as long as he does not supplicate for some
sin, or for the severing of the ties of kinship, and he does not become hasty.”
They said: “O Messenger of Allah, and how would he be hasty?” He said: “He
says: ‘I called upon my Lord, but He did not answer me.’”
Sh, Fawzan said that all of the above hadith establish
that a Muslim should never despair, they should frequently supplicate, Verily
Allah will not let good actions be lost.
We need to hold ourselves to account and supplicate
frequently to Allah
